Focused On The SolutionAccera is a private biotechnology company engaged in the development of novel therapeutic drugs for some of the most challenging neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Age Associated Memory Impairment. Our lead product, KetasynTM, is a first-in-class therapeutic with a novel mechanism-of-action. Accera is building a strong product pipeline through our own small molecule discovery program, in-licensing, and the acquisition of clinical compounds with demonstrated safety and efficacy for treating or preventing neurodegenerative diseases. Dementia: A New Case Every 7 SecondsDementia, the loss of mental functions such as thinking, memory and reasoning, is predicted to skyrocket worldwide as the population and longevity increase. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia. Today more than 24 million people have dementia and the number will double every 20 years to over 80 million by 2040. There are more than 5 million people living with AD which has become the 7th leading cause of death in the U.S. According to the Alzheimer's Association deaths from AD rose 33% from 2000 to 2004. Medicare spending on AD and other dementias is projected to be $189 billion by 2015. |
